Just had my Cancer follow up on 4/9/15 after almost 2 yrs. - been too busy to go down to MD Anderson Cancer Center - United Health approved Huntsman Cancer Center as an in-network option.
I met with my new cancer endocrinologist Dr. Devaprabu Abraham at HCI. He is an amazing Dr. who spent 2 1/2 hrs. with me yesterday and we covered my history very thoroughly and he discussed his philosophy and approach to Thyroid Cancer and recurrence/residual lymph nodes.
He does his own ultrasounds and we did blood test for TSH, Calcium, Vitamin D, PTH (parathyroid) and TG (thyroglobulin is the marker for my cancer).
My ultrasound showed a new cancerous lymph node next to my jugular under my right collarbone. The blood test results came back good overall, but it did confirm it is a cancerous lymph node.
My TSH is very low and acts as a serious suppressor of tumor growth, which is good news because it allows me a little peace of mind in this situation.
We will watch it and follow up in a year to determine if there any changes, assess our next steps, then move forward.
My reaction the first time when told I have cancer and needed surgery and treatment: Oh fuck! (and also tears)
The second time I was scared but kept it in perspective- I finished my MBA before I dealt with it (still thought Oh fuck and felt a little sorry for myself)
This time it didn't even faze me - business as usual - was nervous to look up my test results the next day - but truly at peace with the results.... (no tears or feeling sorry... still an oh fuck!)
